Small Teams, Big Possibilities
Why focused teams can do extraordinary things, and a few lessons learned along the way.
Small teams are not miniature large companies. At their best, they are a different kind of instrument: fast, close to the work, and unusually able to hold a coherent point of view.
Proximity creates clarity
When the people making decisions are also living with the consequences, feedback moves quickly. Language stays concrete. The distance between an idea and the person it serves becomes short enough to learn from.
This only works when focus is protected. A small team carrying ten priorities has none of the advantages of a small team. The power comes from choosing a narrow field and caring about it with unusual intensity.
Trust is infrastructure
The operating system of a small team is trust: clear ownership, honest disagreement, and the confidence to show unfinished work. Without it, speed becomes confusion. With it, a handful of people can build something that feels far larger than the organisation behind it.
